Florida Electrophysiology Associates partners with Florida Cardiovascular Research in conducting many cutting edge clinical trials.  These allow our patients access to the newest and most innovative treatments available.  For example, Dr. Fishel served as a principle investigator in all of the major previous trials for 3-lead (i.e. biventricular) pacemaker and defibrillators. These devices were originally "investigational" but are now standard treatment for patients with congestive heart failure.  Dozens, if not hundreds, of our patients had access to this technology prior to it being approved by the FDA for implantation by other electrophysiologists.

Currently we are involved in multiple trials for the treatment of congestive heart failure* and management of arrhythmias including trials looking at new drug and device therapies for atrial fibrillation. We are currently also conducting research into more advanced defibrillators including defibrillators which can automatically detect impending heart failure by measuring the quantity of water in the patients lungs (utilizing a technology called trans-thoracic impedance monitoring). We are also looking at trials which add additional features to a patients defibrillator via software downloads and utilization of defibrillators in treating early stages of heart failure in an attempt to prevent the disease from getting worse.

Florida Cardiovascular Research is out partner in these trials.  Florida Cardiovascular Research is a dedicated professional research organization whose full time job is to perform advanced research into the treatments of heart disease. In addition to research in electrophysiology, Florida Cardiovascular Research is currently conducting trials for lipid management, acute coronary syndromes, angina, heart attacks, alternative medicine and hypertension.

Please feel free to ask you physician about new therapies which might help your particular type of heart disorder (chances are we are looking at an advanced treatment for that disorder or know someone who is), or call 561-548-5538 for additional information.

All Research is conducted at the Research Offices in

JFK Medical Center

4th Floor Rothman Center

*If you have a three lead (i.e. biventricular) defibrillator and have congestive heart failure, you may qualify for a study that adds software to your device that will continually track fluid levels in your chest for early detection of heart failure thus alerting us early and therefore preventing you from developing overt congestive heart failure- call 561-548-5538 if you want to find out more
